Finance a film with contracted North America and international distribution and tax rebates for production costs
The Business
This Project is a feature motion picture about a harrowing but ultimately redemptive track of one man through the war torn landscape of Africa. It is a UK/South Africa co-production, with distribution in North America through a mini-major, and international sales through a London group. The picture will feature an A-list cast, and the producers have an extensive list of credits from well-known films. The Project has been promoted at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival and the 2010 Locarno Film Festival.
Market
Despite a troubled world economy, filmed entertainment worldwide box office revenue increased from a 2009 total of $29.4 billion by 8% to $31.8 billion in 2010. Filmed entertainment appears to be recession proof, offering audiences value as an affordable means of leisure activity in a depressed economic environment. The filmed entertainment market is presently still a buyer’s market and pricing reflects the over supply of product. This is a direct result of the easy money available for production prior to the implosion of the financial markets in September 2008. However, with the retraction of production funding and inventory levels already low, this market is reverting in favor of sellers – the market in Cannes 2011 signaled an up-tic in demand.

The Promoter is seeking $6.8m to be used for production ($3.6m), prints and ads ($3m), and legal and expenses ($200k). The Project will benefit from combined relief under EIS, UK film production tax rebates and a South African film production tax rebate of 42.5%. With distribution secured in North America via a mini-major and international sales through the London group, the Project has strong upside potential.
