Alexey Popov, a top manager at Sberbank, spends his free time away from Russia’s largest savings bank helping IT ideas mature through the start-up stage.
Popov was appointed Sberbank’s new vice president for universal e-card and public utilities development.last month, after previously working as the CEO of BSS, a remote banking solution developer, and later as head of the Russian government’s IT department. He told news portal CNews.ru that in July he had set up his own proprietary company, Project-PIR, to serve as an exclusive “R&D lab” for IT companies and as a “sieve and incubator for a variety of innovative IT approaches.”
