Russia is witnessing a big upswing in online shopping, despite the ever-present risk of credit theft and fraud. The number of Russians who want to buy everything – from children’s toys to home appliances – with a single click grew exponentially over the past year, a new survey by Synovate Comcon found. A record 6.1 million Russians made online purchases last year, a 16.5 percent growth over the previous year when 5.2 million Russians shopped online, the marketing research company reports.
“Two thousand eleven was the high watermark for online shopping to date,” said researchers at Synovate Comcon, who have also been predicting a banner year for online spending in 2012.
